Redundant Protection for a Non-profit Healthcare Provider

The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD is a large Houston-area non-profit serving over 30,000 people with nearly 3,000 employees. Understaffed and facing HIPAA compliance changes, the IT team struggled with a heterogeneous environment (multiple Windows and SQL versions, 45 VMs, 25 physical servers) and an aging, tape-based backup process that was labor-intensive and unreliable.

They deployed two Unitrends Recovery appliances (824 in the primary data center and 822 in a remote site) to provide fast restores, bare-metal recovery, easy replication and secondary failover between sites, with the option to add HIPAA-compliant Forever Cloud later. The result: faster restore times, eliminated tape costs, improved ransomware and accidental-delete protection, full disaster recovery capability and the reliability the organization needed.
