A Unitrends Case Study
Northeast Missouri Health Council, a not-for-profit regional medical home founded in 1968, needed to replace an unreliable tape-based backup environment with a modern solution that offered redundancy, faster backups and tighter security. IT Director John L. Brown required protection for a mixed environment—VMware virtual machines, Windows physical servers, Microsoft Exchange—and sensitive patient records including EHR/EMR.
They deployed Unitrends appliances (Recovery 813 in the main datacenter and a Recovery 712 off-site) using disk-to-disk backups, automated differential schedules and weekly archives, plus dissimilar bare-metal restores. The result was faster, easier recoveries (files often restored in minutes), reduced administrative overhead and greater availability and peace of mind for patient data—so much so Brown even donated an older Unitrends unit to a local college.
