Data Sales Co., a 40-year IT services firm with more than 100 employees and facilities in Minnesota and Arizona, needed to replace an aging Novell/tape backup setup after fully virtualizing their servers on VMware. They also wanted low-cost, geographically separated offsite backups using Amazon Web Services to improve redundancy and disaster preparedness.

They implemented Unitrends Boomerang to automate VM replication, convert VMs to native AWS AMIs or Azure VMs, and store backups in low-cost S3/blob storage. The solution delivered one-click failover and recovery, ransomware protection, and affordable remote disaster recovery—giving Data Sales a geographically separated backup layer and confidence to spin up VMs in EC2 if needed.
