LOVEFiLM Casts Unitrends for Backup Role

LOVEFiLM, an Amazon subsidiary and leading UK/DVD-by-mail and streaming service with more than 2 million subscribers, faced a fragmented, costly backup environment after several acquisitions. The company needed to protect hundreds of virtual servers, multiple SQL databases and eight physical servers across two data centers and a remote DR site, but existing tools were hard to manage, confusingly licensed and unreliable.

LOVEFiLM deployed a Unitrends Recovery 943 appliance at its primary data center and Unitrends Enterprise Backup software as a VM at the DR site. The solution simplified management, protected both virtual and physical systems, enabled daily snapshots and hourly SQL backups, and delivered fast, reliable restores — delivering the ease of use and cost-effectiveness the IT team required.
