A Unitrends Case Study
Charter Homes & Neighborhoods, a Lancaster, PA–based homebuilder with more than 25 years in business, 4,200 homes delivered and about 150 employees, needed a modern data protection strategy. Their mixed environment of physical and highly virtualized Windows servers (databases, file servers, Active Directory and construction apps) was protected by tape-based Symantec Backup Exec, which regularly took longer than 24 hours to complete and left a two-person IT team unable to manage backups within the window.
After consulting with CDW, Charter deployed a Unitrends Recovery 713S Backup Appliance (with an iSCSI detachable drive array), chosen for quick installation, stability and cost. Backups and bare-metal and virtual restores became much faster and easier to manage, eliminating the lengthy tape processes; the team also gained the option to add Unitrends Cloud now that internet constraints have been resolved.
