Adding Disaster Recovery to Data Backup

CSA Transportation, a Toronto-based trucking and logistics firm serving clients across North America since 1986, relied on a limited Windows backup system that lacked centralized management and bare-metal recovery. With most data and applications hosted at its Toronto data centre (supporting multiple North American locations), a server failure threatened to halt operations company-wide and could take weeks to recover under the existing setup. IT staff needed a single solution to protect both physical and virtual servers and enable fast recovery to either platform.

CSA deployed a Unitrends Recovery 713 appliance, which provided a single management interface, bare-metal image backups (including to dissimilar hardware), automated off-site replication, and instant recovery to run virtual copies of failed servers on the appliance. The appliance now protects 12 Windows servers and over 2 TB of data, dramatically reducing downtime—critical services can be restored in minutes without waiting for replacement hardware—and gives the company a solid foundation for its disaster recovery plan.
