Case Study: Momentum Group achieves centralized, reliable backups and full disaster recovery with Unitrends Recovery 818S

A Unitrends Case Study

A Single Unitrends Appliance Replaces Multiple Tape Backup Devices

Momentum Group, an Irvine, CA–based commercial upholstery distributor in the contract textile market, was protecting roughly 2 TB of data with a fragmented, tape-based strategy. Using ARCserve plus multiple 4mm DAT tapes, drives and different backup software for Windows and Linux created manual, error-prone processes (tracked on spreadsheets), long backup windows and declining reliability that burdened the small IT team.

Momentum replaced the patchwork with a single Unitrends Recovery 818S appliance to centralize backups for virtualized Red Hat and Windows servers and physical CentOS hosts. The appliance delivered ransomware protection, accidental-delete safeguards and full disaster recovery while shortening backup windows and simplifying operations; a VMware snapshot crisis was resolved with a Unitrends bare-metal restore and recovery completed without vendor support, demonstrating the solution’s reliability and ease of use.
