United Living Group worked with Hounslow Council to help address the housing shortage in the London Borough of Hounslow, where homes are expensive, overcrowding is growing, and there is a need for genuinely affordable housing. The council wanted innovative ways to create new homes by making better use of existing space, as part of its wider pledge to deliver 5,000 new and affordable homes by 2022.

United Living Group designed and built rooftop extensions on seven existing buildings, using a modern method of construction to add 77 new homes without increasing the footprint of the buildings. The approach avoided land acquisition and ground works, reduced construction time and disruption, kept residents in situ during installation, and delivered lower-cost, more sustainable homes with improved energy efficiency, lower carbon emissions, and reduced energy bills.
