Renfrewshire Council, which serves around 178,000 people in west central Scotland, faced inefficient, siloed back-office systems across finance, HR, payroll, and purchasing. Heavy reliance on manual, paper-based processes and disconnected data sources made it hard to get a joined-up view of services, delayed decision-making and regulatory reporting, and reduced staff productivity.

The council implemented Unit4 ERP on Azure Cloud to create a single, trusted “golden record,” automate routine tasks and enable self-service for staff. Early results include electronic payslip access for 6,500 employees (removing up to 50,000 paper payslips), near‑immediate regulatory reporting versus previous three‑month delays, improved budget visibility and mobile self‑service for absence and overtime — benefits that led to an eight‑year contract extension.
