How Unit Helped Benepass Deliver a Better Benefits Experience for Companies and Their Employees

Benepass is a Y Combinator–backed benefits platform that helps companies simplify access to tax-advantaged accounts (FSA, HSA, commuter) and perks for employees. Facing low historical usage of these benefits and a need to build a modern HSA spending experience quickly, Benepass partnered with Unit for its flexible banking-as-a-service platform and strong partner-bank relationship to meet a tight pre–open-enrollment timeline.

Using Unit, Benepass launched employer and employee HSA deposit accounts, ACH/wire/check funding with book transfers, ACH reimbursements, automated transaction tagging, and physical and virtual cards — with Unit also handling compliance and bank integrations (Blue Ridge Bank, N.A.). The Unit partnership let Benepass deliver a seamless HSA product on schedule, reduce compliance burden, and operationalize benefits management (e.g., Wellness funds shown at $210,378), improving employees’ ability to access and use tax-advantaged benefits.
