How Stessa, Roofstock’s platform for landlords, uses embedded banking to deepen engagement and generate new revenue

Roofstock, a real estate investing platform, identified an opportunity to deepen engagement with landlords using its Stessa software. Their challenge was to become a more essential, one-stop shop for property managers by solving the significant pain point of managing complex rental-property finances. To achieve this, they partnered with Unit to implement an embedded banking solution.

By leveraging Unit’s embedded finance platform, Stessa was able to offer its customers high-yield Stessa Cash Management accounts, automated rent collection, and business debit cards. This solution eliminated key friction points for landlords and integrated seamlessly with Stessa's existing tools. The results were significant: customers using the banking features logged in twice as often, were 3.5x more likely to be retained, and were 3x more likely to upgrade to a premium plan. Ultimately, Unit helped Stessa achieve a 4x increase in customer lifetime value for users of the embedded banking products.
