Case Study: Beijing Capital International Airport achieves seamless Olympic expansion and record passenger capacity with Unisys GOIS

A Unisys Case Study

Preview of the Beijing Capital International Airport Case Study

Supporting Beijing’s vision as the international hub for visitors to the 2008 Summer Olympics and beyond

The Beijing Capital International Airport faced the challenge of opening one of the world's largest and most advanced terminals in time for the 2008 Summer Olympics. This required seamlessly integrating its new infrastructure with existing terminals and meeting complex baggage-handling requirements. To address this, the airport partnered with vendor Unisys.

Unisys implemented its Ground Operation Information System (GOIS) and an Integration Framework Design to incorporate over 25 core systems. This solution enabled the airport to meet its 30-month deadline and successfully handle a record number of flights during the Olympics. The project significantly increased the airport's capacity to over 80 million passengers per year and achieved a perfect operational record during the Games, with zero incidents, breakdowns, or complaints. Unisys was credited as the master systems integrator for this achievement.
