NI migrates 90+ apps to AWS in 10 months with Unisys

NI, part of Emerson's Test & Measurement business group, faced challenges with an aging monolithic IT infrastructure comprising nearly 190 applications, which hindered growth and agility. To achieve a cloud-native future with improved security and compliance, NI partnered with Unisys for its comprehensive application advisory and consulting services, including data solutions and AI capabilities, to modernize and migrate its application portfolio.

Unisys analyzed over 90 application projects, creating a roadmap and then executing a two-phase migration to AWS. The solution involved re-architecting applications into microservices using Docker and Kubernetes. As a result, Unisys helped NI modernize 86 applications in ten months after a successful pilot, lowering total cost of ownership, accelerating time to market, decommissioning legacy middleware, and improving application performance through a modern microservices architecture.
