The Swiss Alcohol Board (EAV) needed to modernize COMEAV, a 15‑year‑old Uniface desktop application, within one year to meet a statutory deadline for integration into the Federal Customs Administration (EZV). The challenge was to migrate to a web platform, adapt to new work processes, modularize the monolithic system, and align with the EZV landscape—without the time or risk of a full rewrite.

Using Uniface, EAV converted input screens to web forms, modularized the app into web services, business logic and database layers, and reused about 70% of the existing 900,000 lines of code. The solution integrated with EZV/SAP services, added an e‑Government front end so 35,000 farmers can file online (10,000+ users adopted it immediately), cut manual work and errors, met project milestones, and delivered a future‑proof, cost‑effective system.
