A Uniface Case Study
Aurion is an Australian HR and payroll software vendor with over 28 years' experience serving government and industry customers of all sizes (managing pay for more than 300,000 people weekly). Faced with modernizing its flagship Aurion 11—an extensive Uniface-built application of 20+ modules with over 4,000 forms and 200 menus—to deliver a modern, usable GUI for diverse users and to remain compliant with complex Australian labor rules, Aurion needed to accelerate time‑to‑market while minimizing project risk.
Aurion engaged Uniface Professional Services and adopted an agile scrum approach with a “follow the sun” development cycle (Wellington → Brisbane → Amsterdam). Using Uniface 9.6, an MVC design, and a single automated conversion tool (“the sausage machine”) with templates and cookbooks, the team categorized ~90% of forms into seven types and automated up to 95% of transformations. The six‑month engagement, including on‑site knowledge transfer, delivered Aurion 11 on time, on budget and to specification, sped up delivery and provided access to a strong talent pool.
