Siemens EDA accelerates software defect resolution with Undo

Siemens EDA, formerly Mentor, needed a faster way to diagnose a production defect in its Catapult HLS platform when the issue only appeared in a customer’s IP-protected environment. Because field engineers could not easily install debugging tools or remove data from the site, reproducing the bug and collecting enough evidence was a slow, repeated, and disruptive process.

Undo’s LiveRecorder software failure replay platform was integrated into Catapult HLS so Siemens EDA could record the failure at the customer site and replay it offline with reverse debugging. Using Undo, the team cut time-to-resolution by 50%, resolved the defect in hours instead of days, saved an estimated $5,000 on support and engineering overhead for the minor issue, and reduced customer disruption.
