Improving software quality in SAP HANA with Undo’s Live Recorder

SAP used Undo’s LiveRecorder to improve software quality in SAP HANA, its large and complex data management platform. The engineering team relied on continuous integration and fuzz-testing, but many failures were intermittent, hard to reproduce, and difficult to diagnose with logs or traditional debugging methods.

To solve this, Undo implemented LiveRecorder, a software failure replay platform that captured failed test runs so engineers could replay execution, inspect state forward and backward, and share recordings across teams. With Undo, SAP HANA significantly reduced time spent reproducing issues, accelerated defect resolution, and captured and fixed 7 high-priority bugs, including memory corruption defects, a receive buffer issue, shared-data access problems, and a race condition in transaction management.
