A Uncountable Case Study
Carbon, a 3D printing technology company founded in 2013 that develops printers, cloud design tools, and resins for applications from life sciences to consumer hardware, struggled with fragmented R&D data held in spreadsheets and separate lab notebooks—an issue made worse by remote work. To address this, Carbon adopted Uncountable’s cloud-based SaaS R&D platform (an all-in-one connected lab notebook and materials-data system) to centralize formulations and experiment results.
Uncountable implemented its platform to connect formulations to experimental data, automate stoichiometric balancing, convert test outputs into visualizations, and enable ML-driven insights. As a result, Carbon sped up materials development and collaboration, eliminated repetitive manual calculations, and saved hours on each analysis—reducing tasks that once took a full day to being “basically immediate”—and accelerated the path from R&D to production.
