Henry Ford Health System tracks Detroit air pollution during the pandemic with Unacast

Henry Ford Health System, a major healthcare provider in Detroit, sought to understand how vehicle emissions contributed to the city's poor air quality versus other industrial sources. Their challenge was to measure this impact, and they saw an opportunity to do so when vehicle traffic drastically reduced during the pandemic. They partnered with Unacast and used its human mobility data from the Social Distancing Scoreboard to address this.

Unacast provided mobility data that was layered with air quality metrics. This solution allowed the customer to move from speculation to proof, demonstrating a correlation between reduced human movement and lower air pollution levels in Detroit. The data proved incredibly valuable to their research, providing evidence of vehicles' significant role. As a result, Henry Ford Health System is continuing to use Unacast's data to track changes and is exploring other applications for it in their research.
