Umbraco CMS Helps Protect Lives and Wildlands for CAL FIRE

Cal Fire (the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection) needed a scalable, accessible web platform to consolidate multiple disparate sites, meet the California Web Design Template and WCAG AA requirements, support multilingual content, integrate incident tracking and SMS alerts, and simplify DevOps and content management. Cal Fire engaged ProWorks Corporation to migrate and re‑architect their sites using Umbraco CMS (including a customized on‑premise Umbraco Deploy) to address these challenges.

ProWorks implemented a single‑codebase Umbraco solution with the native Block Editor, interactive incident mapping, multilingual support, and streamlined Dev/Test/UAT/Prod deployments. The Umbraco implementation delivered dramatic results: ~600% increase in traffic, capacity for 173 million requests/day and sustained 8,000 requests/second at peak, and digital tracking of 9,917 safety incidents in 2020, while greatly reducing maintenance effort.
