RM Sotheby’s, the international classic car auction house, needed to replace a legacy ColdFusion site with a modern, mobile-friendly CMS that could manage 50,000+ lots, about 250,000 high-resolution images, and integrate with Microsoft Dynamics while sustaining heavy traffic and supporting storefront and advanced search features. They chose Umbraco (Umbraco CMS) for its developer-friendly ASP.NET architecture, intuitive editor interface and powerful Media Library capabilities.

Stateside implemented the site on Umbraco and hosted it in Microsoft Azure, using Umbraco’s Media Library/Cropper plus ImageProcessor to automate roughly 20 image crops across two image types, and integrating Examine/Lucene search, Merchello storefront, Hangfire background jobs and MS Dynamics sync. The Umbraco-based solution manages 50k+ content nodes and 250k images (>1 TB), serves assets via Azure CDN, handles peaks of over 2,000 simultaneous users, supports 30k registered visitors and multiple languages, and delivered a stable, lower-maintenance site with faster content editing and image management.
