Liberty Tax Service, one of the fastest-growing tax preparation franchises with over 4,300 offices, faced an expensive, difficult-to-manage CMS that caused frequent technical and performance problems and high license fees. To consolidate and modernize their web presence (34 public sites into 12) and meet a Microsoft‑based, scalable, easy-to-use requirement without disrupting seasonal operations, Liberty engaged Marathon Consulting to migrate its sites to Umbraco (Umbraco 7 with Grid Editors, Courier & Umbraco Forms).

Marathon Consulting executed a phased, year‑long migration onto Umbraco, refactoring integrations, building a high‑performance, load‑balanced Microsoft infrastructure, creating a shared starter site, and performing integration and load testing before handover. The Umbraco implementation consolidated Liberty’s sites, eliminated burdensome license fees, handled peak traffic reliably, simplified content editing for many editors, and was completed on time and on budget with no impact to seasonal business operations.
