American Foundation for Suicide Prevention drives 8,000 letters to Congress with Ultravirgo

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention partnered with Ultravirgo to address the challenge of translating general mental health awareness into tangible political advocacy and action. Despite increased openness in discussing mental health, a lack of accessible resources and support in the U.S. meant these conversations were not leading to the legislative changes needed to prevent suicide and improve care.

Ultravirgo developed a campaign strategy centered on the rallying cry #MoreForMentalHealth, which included a New York Times open letter, a microsite with a custom demand-artwork generator, and targeted social media efforts. This solution successfully mobilized the community, converting passive support into active participation. The work by Ultravirgo resulted in over 8,000 letters sent to Congress and media outlets, and more than 1,500 people signing up to become AFSP Field Advocates.
