US Army Corps of Engineers completes 250-acre riparian restoration with Ultrasystems Environmental

The US Army Corps of Engineers required mitigation for temporary and permanent impacts to riparian habitat caused by their Santa Ana River Mainstem Flood Control Project. Ultrasystems Environmental was engaged to provide biological resource services, including restoration and agency consultation, to address this challenge.

Ultrasystems implemented a five-year riparian restoration program within the Santa Ana River floodplain, restoring approximately 250 acres of federal land. Through an extensive public outreach program that addressed initial opposition from local equestrian users, Ultrasystems secured community support. The results included improved river flow, a reduction in potential wildland fire risk, and the return of native flora and fauna to re-establish the natural ecosystem.
