OCPW protects 5 gnatcatcher pairs over 13 months with Ultrasystems Environmental

Ultrasystems Environmental was engaged by OCPW (Orange County Public Works) to provide environmental services for the Alton Parkway Extension Project, a major roadway construction aimed at alleviating traffic congestion. The challenge was to complete this critical infrastructure project while ensuring full compliance with environmental regulations and protecting sensitive wildlife species and their habitats located around the site.

The solution implemented by Ultrasystems included extensive archaeological and paleontological monitoring, preconstruction surveys, and ongoing construction monitoring for protected species over a 13-month period. Ultrasystems also prepared and delivered a Worker Environmental Awareness Program to train the construction crews. This proactive approach successfully protected five pairs of coastal California gnatcatchers and one pair of least Bell’s vireo, preventing any construction delays and ensuring the project proceeded without regulatory stoppages.
