A Ultrasystems Environmental Case Study
The customer, NAVFAC, required assistance in managing the sensitive cultural resources at Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake. Their challenge was to identify and catalog all archaeological sites and artifacts across over 15,000 acres to comply with the National Historic Preservation Act. Ultrasystems Environmental was enlisted to perform comprehensive archaeological surveys.
Ultrasystems implemented a technologically advanced solution, using iPad tablets to digitally integrate site documentation with GIS software for immediate processing. This method allowed each resource to be cataloged in seconds, dramatically speeding up fieldwork conducted in 2015. The solution resulted in the successful recording of 116 cultural sites and 498 isolates. Ultrasystems delivered a detailed Phase 1 Site Survey Report, providing NAVFAC with a complete inventory to aid in the management of these nonrenewable resources.
