Koa completes 3-month slope restoration monitoring with Ultrasystems Environmental

The customer, Koa Corporation, faced a challenge after the 2016 Sand Fire burned a protective boardwall, leaving the embankment of Soledad Canyon Road vulnerable to erosion from the Santa Clara River. Ultrasystems Environmental provided biological monitoring services to assist with the slope restoration and protection project while ensuring regulatory compliance for sensitive biological resources.

Ultrasystems implemented a solution by having a biological monitor on-site throughout the three-month construction period. This monitor coordinated with crews to prevent work stoppages, ensured all biological mitigation measures were adhered to, and minimized the likelihood of impacts on special-status wildlife. The result was the successful restoration of the slope and installation of a new rip rap protection barrier without any reported construction delays or environmental compliance issues.
