Volley powers 250+ AI trainers with Ultralytics YOLO

Volley, a company that builds AI-powered training systems for racquet sports, faced the challenge of delivering responsive, real-time coaching. Conventional ball machines lacked awareness of player position, movement, and court type, making tailored and safe training difficult. To solve this, they turned to Ultralytics and implemented a computer vision pipeline using their YOLO models for pose estimation, ball detection, and court classification.

The solution from Ultralytics involved deploying YOLO11 models to run in real time on compact, embedded hardware within each on-court trainer. This provided the system with the necessary awareness to interact with players responsively and safely adjust between different sports. As a result, Volley has successfully deployed its system to roughly 250 trainers, enabling real-time coaching and objective skill assessments across four different racquet sports.
