Stride delivers 1-minute equine gait analysis with Ultralytics

Stride, an iOS app developed by equine veterinarian Dr. Quentin Pleyers, faced the challenge of performing objective lameness assessments on horses in the field. Traditional methods were subjective, while existing objective tools required specialized hardware or slow cloud-based processing. Stride needed a solution to deliver fast, reliable gait analysis directly on a smartphone without internet access. To solve this, Stride integrated Ultralytics YOLO models for on-device pose estimation.

By leveraging Ultralytics YOLO26 models exported to Core ML, Stride achieves a full gait analysis in under one minute on an iPhone. The solution processes video locally with inference times of approximately 10 milliseconds per frame, providing veterinarians with immediate, objective data on movement asymmetry. This has reduced assessment variability and supported more evidence-based clinical decisions, helping Stride gain traction in the veterinary community. Ultralytics provided the performance and flexibility needed to bring this vision AI solution from prototype to production.
