Sotheby’s Wines Full Speed Ahead into the Digital Age

Sotheby’s Wines, the fine‑wine arm of the multibillion‑dollar Sotheby’s organization, was running an antiquated eCommerce and POS environment that relied on paper invoices, mailed checks, customer ID faxes, and a non‑responsive site. To modernize its retail and auction businesses across New York, Hong Kong and London, Sotheby’s Wines selected Ultra Commerce and its Ultra platform to provide a unified, multichannel digital storefront with integrated POS and subscription/membership capabilities.

Ultra Commerce re‑platformed the entire Sotheby’s Wines operation — public site, back office, POS (integrated with Star Micronics and Datacap), CyberSource payments, inventory, fulfillment and global product management — and implemented case logic for accurate shipping and insurance handling. The Ultra solution went live in nine months, delivered PCI/GDPR compliant, paperless payment storage and multi‑market SKU management, and produced measurable benefits: faster inventory and order management, improved customer relationship handling, increased online business and lower per‑package shipping costs.
