A UL Case Study
Waters Corporation, a manufacturer of laboratory instruments, faced the challenge of scientifically proving the safety of its building ventilation across its global facilities to protect employees and maintain operations during the pandemic. The company engaged UL Solutions and its Healthy Buildings Services to evaluate ventilation and indoor air quality against the ASHRAE 62.1 standard for its diverse mix of laboratories, manufacturing plants, and offices.
UL Solutions implemented a three-pronged testing approach across 16 facilities in 8 countries within 180 days, inspecting HVAC systems, measuring air intake, and performing indoor air quality assessments. The collaboration resulted in concise, actionable reports that helped Waters Corporation establish a framework for its safe return-to-work plans. These crucial ventilation efforts contributed to a near-zero rate of on-site COVID-19 transmission despite more than 300,000 employee visits.
