UL’s Healthy Buildings Program Gives Boost to Hensel Phelps’ WELL Certification Ambition

Hensel Phelps, a general contractor and construction company, used its Northern California district office move to Pleasanton as a chance to create a healthier, more productive workplace for employees, clients, and guests. To help turn that vision into a certifiable wellness-focused space, it worked with UL Solutions and its Services for Healthy Buildings offering to support its WELL certification goals.

UL Solutions advised on WELL design and policy requirements, reviewed documents, and helped Hensel Phelps select healthier materials, improve lighting, acoustics, daylighting, and wellness amenities, and formalize employee wellness policies. The project ultimately exceeded its original WELL Gold target and earned WELL Certified Platinum, one of only three such certifications in California at the time, while also influencing healthier workspace changes beyond the office.
