UL Evaluates Global Software Point-of-Sale Solution With PIN Entry Against Mastercard and Visa Schemes’ Pilot Specifications

WIZZIT Digital, a London-based digital payments company, set out to bring SoftPOS, or “Tap on Phone,” to market with PIN entry support so merchants could accept contactless payments on Android mobile devices without extra hardware. The company needed to prove that its Tap2Pay solution met Mastercard and Visa functional and security requirements, while the project was also complicated by the COVID-19 pandemic and the shift to remote collaboration. UL Solutions provided the security and functional testing and evaluation services for the effort.

UL Solutions assessed the Tap2Pay SoftPOS solution against Mastercard and Visa scheme requirements, validating security controls around NFC payment data and the contactless kernel on the COTS device. The solution was verified by UL Solutions in December 2020 and recognized by both Mastercard and Visa, allowing WIZZIT Digital to operate under both schemes’ pilot programs and launch its SoftPOS with PIN entry in January 2021. The company then went live with an initial customer, one of the largest Pan-African retail banks, helping bring a trusted PIN-on-glass payment option to market.
