A UL Solutions Case Study
LITEON, a Taiwan-based provider of optoelectronic components and electronic modules, wanted to reduce the environmental impact of its supply chain by turning ocean foam waste into usable recycled material for products like keyboards and mice. To support this challenge, LITEON worked with UL Solutions on recycled content validation and related polymer material testing needed to bring its sustainable products to market.
UL Solutions helped LITEON validate its ocean-plastic recycled content under UL ECVP 2809 and certify recycled plastics under UL 746D, along with other polymer standards. As a result, LITEON’s LGS-7505 was validated as 80% recycled content, including 75% post-consumer recycled ABS and 5% PS ocean plastic, making LITEON the first UL customer to achieve UL ECVP 2809 validation for ocean plastics. Since 2018, its SEA HOPE project has also helped clean more than 79 metric tons of ocean abandoned foam, involved over 3,000 participants, and reduced carbon emissions by over 72 metric tons.
