Elkjøp, a large Nordic consumer electronics retailer, faced the challenge of helping customers understand PC performance beyond just technical specifications. Many shoppers were purchasing budget-friendly but underpowered systems without grasping how that would affect their daily use. They partnered with UL Solutions to create a solution that would make it easier for sales staff to explain meaningful differences and to categorize computers based on real-world capabilities rather than components.

UL Solutions worked with Elkjøp to define four clear PC categories (Basic, Home, Produce, Create) based on performance data from rigorous benchmark testing, including PCMark 10. Every system was tested in the UL Solutions lab, and the resulting scores and categories were used on Elkjøp's website, in-store materials, and advertising. This provided customers with an easy, numbers-based way to compare systems and understand which PC was right for their needs, with the solution launching in time for a key back-to-school sales promotion.
