First IoT OCF-Over-Thread Embedded Module to Earn UL Certification

Cascoda, a U.K.-based IoT semiconductor and software provider, needed help certifying its Chili2 smart module, a first-of-its-kind OCF-over-Thread embedded module. The company faced the challenge of proving compliance across radio frequency, Thread networking, and OCF application-layer standards while meeting global market requirements.

UL Solutions provided a three-phase testing and certification process that included RF testing plus Thread and OCF protocol certification support. With UL Solutions’ guidance and coordination with the certification workgroups, Chili2 earned FCC/CE certification and became the first-ever certified OCF-over-Thread small embedded module supporting IP public key infrastructure security, helping Cascoda expand into smart city and parking meter deployments across Asia Pacific.
