Preview of the Town of Cary Case Study

Cary, North Carolina is the First Fire Station to Earn UL’s Verified Healthy Building Mark

The Town of Cary, North Carolina, needed a way to verify that the indoor air quality at Fire Station No. 4, its oldest firehouse, was safe for firefighters who both work and live in the building. UL Solutions provided its Verified Healthy Building Mark for Indoor Air, helping Cary address concerns such as diesel exhaust, contaminants on gear, and other pollutants common in a fire station environment.

UL Solutions conducted documentation reviews, visual inspections, HVAC system checks, and indoor air quality testing aligned with EPA, WHO, and ASHRAE standards, using recognized laboratory methods. As a result, Cary’s Fire Station No. 4 became the first fire station to earn the UL Verified Healthy Building Mark for Indoor Air, giving staff added confidence in the building’s air quality and reinforcing the town’s commitment to firefighter health and safety.
