The UCL Institute of Child Health and Great Ormond Street Hospital maximise resources with standardised infrastructure

The UCL Institute of Child Health, working with Great Ormond Street Hospital, needed to replace a disparate, hard-to-manage server setup for its joint website. It turned to Ubuntu and solutions provider Fry-IT for a more cost-effective, reliable infrastructure that would improve management, business continuity, and resource use.

Ubuntu, implemented through Ubuntu Server Edition with OpenVZ virtualization, helped consolidate the environment onto four Dell PowerEdge servers. The result was simpler patching, faster backups and virtual server deployment, no service disruption, and major cost savings, with the server count expected to drop from 11 to four while enabling new services at no additional hardware cost.
