Case Study: The Silph Road achieves 40% cloud-load reduction and seamless autoscaling with Ubuntu (Canonical)

A Ubuntu Case Study

Preview of the The Silph Road Case Study

The Silph Road embraces cloud and containers with Canonical - it’s super effective!

The Silph Road is a volunteer-run, global community and the largest Pokémon GO resource, serving up to 400,000 visitors a day. Faced with massive, unpredictable traffic spikes and a distributed team of developers, the site needed a cost-effective, scalable way to keep services running and make infrastructure accessible to volunteers worldwide.

They moved to Ubuntu on the public cloud using Juju for fast, repeatable deployments and the Canonical Distribution of Kubernetes to containerize services and enable autoscaling. The result: 90% of infrastructure on Kubernetes, a 40% reduction in cloud load, easier volunteer onboarding, and cloud-to-cloud migrations with service interruptions under 90 seconds.
