A Ubuntu Case Study
teuto.net, a German IT company offering Linux, hosting, cloud, and web development services, needed to enhance its teutoStack Public Cloud to meet rising customer demand for high-performance yet cost-effective cloud capabilities. As a long-term Ubuntu Cloud Partner and Ubuntu Advantage Reseller, teuto.net used Ubuntu and the Canonical Distribution of Ubuntu OpenStack to support its plan for integrating IBM POWER8 into its public cloud infrastructure.
Ubuntu enabled teuto.net to add IBM Power S812L servers as compute nodes in less than half a business day, with PowerKVM and Canonical cloud tools like Juju and MAAS helping streamline provisioning and management. The result was better performance for workloads such as analytics, improved reliability, lower energy use, and a smaller server footprint; teuto.net also estimated that each POWER8 server could support twice as many virtual environments as an x86 server, with at least 100 virtual environments per physical server.
