ITstrategen keep legacy applications secure with Extended Security Maintenance

ITstrategen is a Karlsruhe-based software developer and hosting provider (founded 2011) that supports major German businesses. When Ubuntu 12.04 reached the end of its five‑year support window in April 2017, about 10% of ITstrategen’s customers were not ready to migrate, leaving servers exposed to security risks and potential regulatory fines — or forcing costly refactors (potentially six figures) or time‑consuming isolation workarounds.

ITstrategen solved the problem by purchasing Extended Security Maintenance (ESM) through the Ubuntu Advantage program, which provides continued security updates for Ubuntu 12.04. ESM removed the need for emergency migrations or complex workarounds, kept customers’ systems secure, saved them from large upgrade costs, reduced ITstrategen’s operational burden, and preserved service quality and customer loyalty — with plans to adopt additional Ubuntu Advantage services like Livepatch.
