Case Study: Flexwebhosting achieves service provisioning in minutes with Ubuntu

A Ubuntu Case Study

Preview of the Flexwebhosting Case Study

Flexwebhosting spins up services in record time with Canonical

Flexwebhosting, founded in 2002, is one of the Netherlands’ largest web hosts with over 60,000 customers and 6,500 servers. Facing fierce competition and labor‑intensive manual provisioning—new services often required engineer intervention and took hours or days—the company needed a faster, more scalable delivery model while retraining staff and minimizing disruption.

Working with Fairbanks NL and Canonical, Flexwebhosting deployed an Ubuntu OpenStack private cloud via Canonical’s managed BootStack and used Juju for service modelling. Canonical’s team built and operated the cloud, handed operations over after staff upskilling, and Juju enabled self‑service provisioning; as a result, time to deliver new services dropped from days to minutes, operational costs fell, and the in‑house team gained cloud expertise while remaining on up‑to‑date, supported software.
