A Ubuntu Case Study
City Network is a Sweden‑based cloud hosting provider that specializes in compliant IaaS for highly regulated industries such as financial services. Known for running the world’s largest deployment of OpenStack public cloud nodes across more than 20 data centers, the company faced a challenge: its legacy Linux distribution was costly, unwieldy and lacked responsive support, limiting agility and the ability to meet strict regulatory needs.
City Network replaced the legacy OS with Ubuntu and partnered with Canonical, deploying Ubuntu Advantage, certified cloud images and expert support across its sites. Seven data centers have already moved to OpenStack on Ubuntu, delivering higher service quality, lower operating costs (savings passed to customers), happier employees, and new revenue from reselling Canonical support — a combination that helped win major banking business while maintaining compliance and zero‑downtime upgrades.
