A Ubuntu Case Study
Cinergy Entertainment Group is a Dallas-based operator of large cinema entertainment centers across Texas, combining dine-in cinemas, bowling, arcades and other attractions. Digital signage is central to the guest experience and marketing, but Cinergy’s original Apple TV setup proved too costly and management-intensive as the company prepared to expand — updates required IT involvement and could take days, limiting the ability to run fast-moving promotions.
Cinergy replaced Apple TVs with Screenly Pro players running Ubuntu Core, a compact, Raspberry Pi–based solution with local content caching, transactional OS updates and strong security. The new system is cheap to deploy, easy for marketing to update (content can go live within minutes), and resilient to network outages; deployment of 40 devices was smooth and Cinergy reports roughly $50,000 in savings and plans to scale further.
