Case Study: Capgemini achieves a secure, global, cost-effective thin-client IT platform with Ubuntu

Capgemini deploys hybrid thin client solution with Ubuntu Advantage

Capgemini’s Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) division, which supports large multinational clients, faced high costs and operational complexity from disparate hardware, software and locally built IT infrastructures across its global offices. To reduce cost, simplify management and improve customer and end‑user experience, Capgemini developed a single, standardized Model Delivery Center (MDC) thin‑client concept.

The MDC uses cost‑effective commercial thin‑client devices running a single Ubuntu 10.04 LTS image, centrally managed with Canonical’s Ubuntu Advantage and Landscape, and providing applications as remote or cloud services. The result is a secure, ISO 27001‑compliant platform that improved performance and user acceptance, reduced IT management overhead, enhanced business continuity and scaled rapidly (1,000+ users in year one, with plans to exceed 10,000).
