Preview of the BT Group Case Study

BT Group delivers UK 5G coverage for over 75% of the population with Ubuntu

BT Group sought to deliver a UK-wide 5G network and needed greater control, flexibility, and community support than proprietary solutions could offer. The challenge was to virtualize network functions and automate operations while ensuring high reliability and accelerating service innovation.

Partnering with Canonical, BT deployed an open source, virtualized network infrastructure based on OpenStack with Ubuntu Pro + Support. Canonical provided the technology, expert guidance, and training, enabling BT's teams to fully operate the platform internally. This resulted in the rapid launch of new 5G services, the highest levels of reliability, and support for over 75% of the UK population, while strengthening BT's internal open source expertise and network resilience.
