Case Study: Suomen Akatemia achieves seamless single sign-on and secure Haka federation with Ubisecure

Suomen Akatemia (Academy of Finland), a government research funding body with 150 employees and €437 million in research funding in 2021, needed efficient identity and access management for its online portal so researchers, reviewers and other stakeholders could register, apply and review funding applications without friction. Ubisecure provided the identity solution, deploying Ubisecure SSO and Haka federation integration so users could register and sign in with existing Haka credentials (for example student numbers) rather than creating new accounts.

Ubisecure implemented a customised signup and single sign-on flow and deployed its Metadata Updater to automatically monitor and apply federation metadata changes. The result was seamless movement between services, single sign‑on and single log‑out for better security, and elimination of manual metadata maintenance—freeing administrator time, reducing credential-management overhead and lowering the risk of lingering or unnecessary access thanks to centralised deactivation by Ubisecure.
