Case Study: Volvo Ocean Race achieves real-time global live streaming with Ubiquiti

Volvo Ocean Race Uses Live Streaming Configured by Sling Broadband

The Volvo Ocean Race, a global offshore sailing event, needed real‑time live streaming, reliable voice and data across the Miami port and two offsite locations, and wireless coverage of on‑water racing — all with only two months to deploy. Logistics Management Group brought in Sling Broadband, which used Ubiquiti equipment (airMAX Rocket radios with RocketDish/Sector antennas, NanoBridge/NanoStation, PowerBridge, PicoStation and airOS) to build an MPLS circuit and deliver the required multimedia and network services.

Sling Broadband implemented a two‑segment point‑to‑point link (helicopter → building → central encoder) using Ubiquiti Rocket radios and airOS to increase the MTU and prevent packet fragmentation, enabling more than 60 Mbps of multicast traffic with 802.1Q over EoMPLS. Ubiquiti’s solution delivered seamless, low‑latency live streams to global audiences (including feeds to Fox Sports), reliable voice/data for the port and offsite sites, and a stable network that met the client’s performance goals.
