University Wi-Fi Leaps Ahead with Upgrade to UniFi

Mount St. Mary’s University needed to replace an aging Meraki deployment whose licenses were expiring and dramatically improve campus Wi‑Fi for roughly 2,600 daily users. With heavy video streaming, BYOD/IoT growth, high‑density classrooms and remote sites without fiber, the university sought a higher‑performance, cost‑effective wireless solution. Ubiquiti deployed UniFi access points (UAP‑AC‑HD, AC‑PRO, AC‑IW, Mesh Pro), airMAX AC devices for outdoor PtP/PtMP links, and 10G EdgeSwitch XG aggregation, managed via the UniFi Controller and airControl tools. The rollout expanded Wi‑Fi coverage by nearly 200,000 sq ft at $0.12/ft² versus $0.67/ft² for the competitor, restored connectivity quickly for remote housing after a fiber failure, and reduced Wi‑Fi support calls by about 95%, delivering higher performance, simpler management, and significant cost savings.
