UniFi AC HD Propels High-Performance Event Wi-Fi in University Arena

KINnect You, a youth-focused family history event held at Burns Arena, needed reliable, high-density Wi‑Fi for thousands of attendees in a challenging open-arena environment that previously supported only a few hundred concurrent users. To meet bandwidth‑intensive requirements, event organizers and ISP InfoWest deployed Ubiquiti UniFi equipment, including UniFi AC HD access points, UniFi PoE switches and a UniFi Security Gateway, managed with the UniFi Controller.

Ubiquiti’s UniFi solution—20 UAP‑AC‑HD APs plus UniFi switches and controller—was carefully placed and tuned (channel planning, transmit power, RSSI limits and airtime fairness) to balance client load. The result: sustained 50+ Mbps upload/download performance, a world record of 18,563 memories uploaded and 12,111 tagged in 30 minutes, over 300 GB transferred in 8.5 hours by roughly 3,500 unique users, and thousands of simultaneous users online (nearly 4,000 reported), with each AP supporting about 100 clients—demonstrating Ubiquiti’s high‑density, cost‑effective capability and room for future growth.
